We would like to personally thank Women In Need, Wilson College and the Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce for being an important asset in the community. Today at the Annual Awards Breakfast, we were presented with the Environmental Sustainability Award for the Women In Need Shelter. However, we cannot take all the credit for this accomplishment, so we would like to acknowledge SGS Architects and CS Davidson for making this project a success. Way to go team!
The Women in Need Shelter & Advocacy is an 11,070-square-foot structure with a LEED Certified designation. The goal was to create an office and short term living facility which would blend into a residential neighborhood reflecting a sensitivity to the environment. The construction phase included a waste management program resulting in 75 percent of waste being recycled. The building was designed with the environment in mind, including features such as solar thermal panels, use of rain gardens, water saving plumbing fixtures and more.
